Brrrrrr! Hope everybody stays warm and safe.
We’ve had quite the busy week here beginning week two of our project, History of the New World in One Object. Modeled after the British Museum’s History of the World in 100 Objects, the students are creating an object that represents 1) early colonial history in North America or 2) early Native American history in North America. (They have the option to choose the Incan culture as well; it was used extensively to talk about initial conquerors.) They also write a podcast and an “About This Object” (an abstract).
The assignment and the writing models are uploaded on Jupiter. Students have had 4.5 hours in class so far to research their chosen culture. Their draft for the podcast transcript and “About this object” are due on Tuesday, November 18th, so they may peer edit. The entire project is due on Monday, November 24th.
On Thursday, November 20th and Friday, November 21st students may bring in their actual item to work on. There are many art supplies here; cardboard, tempra paint, markers, the usual. As I have told the students, if they need anything else, I need to know by Tuesday, November 18th so I can get it.
If you know of any free, quality audio recording software that records in .mp3 for the PC, please let me know. I’d really like the kids to actually record their work and publish it to the world.
Here is the British Museum’s website if you’d like to check out the original podcast series.
